CLINTON THUNDER

Sunday's Game

The THUNDER came out ready to play on Sunday. At first it appeared that the game was going to be rained out, but as game time approached the skies cleared and we were able to get the game in. The first half was an up and down the field battle with each team having multiple scoring opportunities. The THUNDER was applying huge pressure on defense, contesting every shot, going after loose balls, and bringing the balls up the sides. On offense we were making some passes and controlling the ball quite well. At the end of the half we had played to a scoreless tie.

The THUNDER came out really fired up in the second half. Again with great defensive pressure we held the CHILI PEPPERS to a scoreless tie until the THUNDER broke the tie at minute 45. The THUNDER had a direct kick from just outside of the 18. Erika Saunders took the kick and sent it over the goalies hands and into the back of the net. At about minute 50 the THUNDER made its best offensive play of the game when Jaime Mugavero had a break away down the middle of the field and with one defender and the goalie to beat gave a fantastic pass to her right side that Erika hit on the run and put into the net. This play was one of the best plays that the THUNDER has had this season. At minutes 55 and 60 the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS scored goals to tie the game at two to two and then the defenses for both teams stepped up the pressure. Every ball was being contested, on breakaways almost every player was dropping back to help. At minute 63 the THUNDER was awarded another direct kick. This kick was almost identical to the first kick and was heading to the back of the net when the CHILI PEPPERS' goalie reached out and knocked the ball away. The game ended in a two-two tie.

COACHES COMMENTS

Again, the girls were awesome. The way that they fought on Sunday made me extremely proud. This Sunday, like last Sunday they were forced to play with only one substitute and showed a lot of heart playing as tough as they did for all 70 minutes. I am truly looking forward to coaching these girls next week since every week they continue to grow as a team.
